Slowing down.....

I've started reading a new book called The Practice of Contemplative Photography.  I learned about it accidentally while reading a magazine on yoga.  I haven't started yoga but I'm sure that it's going to be a good thing for me.  Anyway... after reading the article I wanted to learn more about this kind of photography.  Sometimes I feel that I fill myself with to much information and I've forgotten how to see the world around me.  The practice of contemplative photography teaches you to slow down and be more aware of the beauty in the ordinary.  It's very interesting and takes practice.  When you become more aware that in our busy crazy lives there are so many opportunities missed to create beautiful photographs it makes you think.
While making my son's bed I stopped to notice how the light was coming in across his bed.  I've made it so many times but never stopped to "see".
While this isn't the most beautiful photograph it is exactly what I saw and at that moment it was beautiful.

On a lighter note while this looks peaceful the other side of the room was a disaster!

Winter Black and Whites

It is getting very cold outside and we are supposed to get snow this afternoon.  It's a perfect afternoon to catch up with some of my favorite blogs.  Christina from soul aperture created a beautiful mosaic of winter black and white images on the mortal muse blog.  So I thougt I would share my winter in black and white images and link up with them.
Have a great weekend and stay warm...

New Banners...

For the Christmas holidays I made festive banners out of vintage sheet music, a little glitter, and a scrabble letter.  They spelled all sorts of Christmas sentiments.  I've seen these made as a single ornament but I thought it would be fun to join them together to make a banner that could be used year after year.  They were very popular.  So I thought why not make them for different occasions like birthdays, other holidays, anniversaries etc.
Valentine's Day is next so that's what I've been working on...  I've been having some trouble with posting new items in my etsy shop.  Hopefully this weekend you can find them here

white ironstone...

I have shared in the past that I really like going to tag sales and thrift shops and did I mention that my husband likes to also.  We have enjoyed that for as many years as we have been married (many many).  We went to a sale on Friday and I was able to pick up some well loved white ironstone.  When I'm  looking for vintage treasures I usually end up thinking how I can use them in a photograph.  I found 2 nice pitchers, a bowl, and a platter.  You can find them here if you are fond of white ironstone.  I found some bittersweet still hanging on and played around with textures from here.
